A way of living
From pages 84-88 of the AA Big Book.

The AA Big Book describes the practice of Steps 10, 11, and 12 like this:

We vigorously commenced this way of living ... It should continue for our lifetime ... We constantly remind ourselves we are no longer running the show ... We let God discipline us in the simple way we have just outlined.

We have found that this way of living is all we need
For us, this is not a supplement to the way "ordinary people" live their lives. It's a replacement.

We think that's why the AA Big Book says we do not tire so easily, for we are not burning up energy foolishly as we did when we were trying to arrange life to suit ourselves.

We've come to accept that we are more at peace when we follow this way of living constantly
The paragraph that deals with doing Step 10 uses the word continue or some variation of it four times.

We think that's why the AA Big Book says every day is a day when we must carry the vision of God's will into all of our activities ... These are thoughts which must go with us constantly.

We've learned, when we are afraid, to do Step 10
We deal with fear by doing Step 10. We try not to deal with it by thinking ourselves out of it, or by talking to an expert, or by doing something to distract us, or any one of a thousand other things that ordinary people do when they're afraid. We just do Step 10 and we ask for the fear to be removed.

We've learned that, when we've done Step 10, it's best for us to do Step 11
We do Step 11 to determine what our Higher Power wants us to do, and for the strength to do it. We try to do this whenever we've done Step 10.

We believe we can be shown all through the day what our next step is to be. We think that's why the Big Book suggests, when we may not be able to determine which course to take ... we ask God for inspiration, an intuitive thought or a decision.

Every time we do Step 11, we find that Step 12 seems to follow automatically
After all, Step 12 is merely doing what our Higher Power suggests that we do, and enables us to do, in Step 11.
